Vodafone is expanding its
mobile network offensive. The digitalization group announces much earlier than
planned: 5G from Vodafone is now available to 25 million people. And the
expansion continues: For the new financial year, the Düsseldorfers are announcing
the implementation of more than 7,000 mobile phone construction projects,
including 3,000 5G projects to activate 9,000 antennas for the fifth generation
of mobile communications. At an increasing and more locations, Vodafone is also
putting the 5G antennas on its own and also connecting them to the 5G
infrastructure in the core network: 5G standalone. In addition, Vodafone will
be redeploying former 3G frequencies, with which Vodafone will be providing
even more LTE at 18,000 mobile stations from summer onwards.
"Stable nets are more
important than ever to stay in touch with our loved ones and with our work
colleagues. A glance at our network shows that people are again taking more
time to make phone calls. Each call takes an average of more than three minutes
– 35 seconds longer than a year ago. Video calls and streaming caused almost 40
percent more data to rush through our network," said Vodafone Germany CEO
Hannes Ametsreiter. "Our networks have always lived up to the high load.
And we will continue to improve the quality. In the new financial year, we are
building additional stations where there are still annoying radio holes. We
turn off 3G to free up even more space for LTE. And we are the first provider
in Germany to turn 5G into a real-time commercial network in more and more
locations – completely independent of the existing LTE infrastructure,"
says Ametsreiter. Communications Today brings latest Vodafone idea news.
Vodafone plans to launch
around 4,000 LTE construction projects in order to bring the fast mobile
network to where it is not yet available or with limited capacity. Vodafone is
expanding, especially in rural areas. In addition, there is the large-scale
reassignment of 3G frequencies, which will also be used for LTE at 18,000
mobile locations from June. For customers with their smartphones, this means
even more space on the faster LTE data highway. Vodafone has already made this
change in Mainz, Wiesbaden and Chemnitz. This brings each individual on average
higher bandwidths in everyday life. Vodafone already reaches more than 99
percent of all people in Germany where they live with LTE.
Demand for 5G is growing
noticeably: today, almost 40 times more data rushes through Vodafone's 5G
network every day than it did a year ago. trend is rising sharply. At 5G,
Vodafone is therefore announcing more than 3,000 projects to live 9,000
additional 5G antennas (a mobile site usually has three antennas). By 2021,
more than 30 million people will be able to use 5G where they live and spend
their daily lives. Vodafone had originally announced that it would reach around
20 million people with 5G by the end of 2021.
Now the digitalization group
announces: "Our 5G network is growing even faster. In the past few days,
our technicians have connected hundreds more 5G antennas to the grid. Today,
our 5G network is already available to almost one in three German citizens
where they spend their daily lives. We are now reaching more than 25 million
people with 5G – this year there will be more than 30 million," says
Ametsreiter. In total, Vodafone has already launched more than 10,000 5G
antennas at more than 3,000 locations. In the past financial year, the number
of people reaching Düsseldorfers with 5G in Germany has increased twenty-fold.
